Gainesville and its Surrounding Areas Have Something to Offer for Everyone!

One mile separates you from the University of Florida and all the excitement of the campus and the Fighting Gators. The Hippodrome State Theater (also known as "The Hipp") is six, small-town blocks away. We are also home to the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, the Harn Museum of Art and the Florida Museum of Natural History. All are located on the university campus. Shands at AGH, North Florida Regional Medical Center and the Malcom Randall Veterans Medical Center serving North Florida and South Georgia are located nearby.

Close by are Paines Prairie, a vast and ever-changing Florida savanna filled with birds and wildlife, and The Devil's Millhopper, a fascinating, 212 step trip down into an actual sinkhole. The clear springs of the Santa Fe and Ichnetucknee Rivers are a delight for diving, canoeing and tubing.

We're centrally located amidst some of the finest antique shops in North Florida. High Springs, Micanopy and Waldo are all within 35 minutes of travel. There are frequent auctions close by that can yield a treasure trove of goodies as well. Downtown Gainesville hosts two art festivals (April and November) that bring local and national exhibitors to our doorstep. Gainesville is also home to drag racing's premier event, the NHRA Gatornationals each March.

Fishing is easy to get to. Both coasts are within 90 minutes and the St. John's River is but 45 minutes away at Palatka. Cedar Key with its great food and laid back atmosphere is an hour to the southwest. Due to its campus environment, Gainesville is a bike-friendly town highlighted by the Gainesville-Hawthorne bike trail that has its trailhead just three miles away.
